Weems Inks With Jaguars

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta State head men's basketball coach Dip Metress announced his second signee of the spring signing period Tuesday.

Ryan Weems, a 6-0 guard from Miramar, Fla., has signed a national letter-of-intent with the Jaguars and will enroll at ASU for the fall, 2012 semester.

A product of Miramar High School, Weems spent two seasons at Broward College in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. In 40 career games for the Seahawks, he scored 585 points. As a sophomore, he averaged 18.1 ppg., in just 15 games and shot 43.0 pct., from 3-point range before being sidelined with a season-ending injury.

"Ryan has proven the ability to make shots in his career," said Metress. "Ryan has a second gear that we were looking for in an off guard and we can't wait for him to join us. He injured his knee his sophomore season and did not play the last half of the year and kind of flew under the radar."

Weems joins North Carolina prep guard Keshun Sherrill as the first two signees for the Jags in 2012. ASU is expected to return four starters and seven lettermen from last season's squad that posted a 17-11 record and advanced to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament semifinals.
